The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program envisions an inclusive network of young people and institutions that can drive equitable and inclusive socio-economic changes in Africa. The Program was launched in 2012 and has helped nearly 40,000 African youth to continue their secondary or tertiary education.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program recognizes the need to overcome systemic barriers to higher education, increase capacity, support innovative solutions across the critical sector, and link ecosystem actors to enhance their impact across Africa. The Program works in partnership with universities, NGOs, and other stakeholders in higher education to create conditions that enable young people to obtain inclusive and relevant education, move into meaningful and fulfilling careers, and live transformative lives.


4. Georgetown University Scholarships for African Students

The Georgetown University Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) began offering a full tuition scholarship to a sub-Saharan African graduate student in the fall of 2014. Georgetown University’s MSFS is a full-time, two-year graduate degree program in international affairs. Applications from South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Liberia, Senegal, and Cote d’Ivoire are given special consideration.

Applicants must submit all required materials for consideration for the scholarship. The strength of the applicant’s application during the admissions process will determine the scholarship.


5. AAUW International Fellowship Program

International Fellowships were established in 1917. This program supports women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents but wish to study full-time in the United States and return to their home country to pursue a professional career.

Only a few awards are available to study outside the United States, but not the applicant’s country of origin. These awards are only available to Graduate Women International members. All levels of graduate and postgraduate studies at U.S. accredited institutions are eligible for support.

The applicant must have attained the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree before the deadline. They must also have applied to the institutions of their choice by the time they submit the application. Academic achievements and commitment to women and girls are the criteria for selecting recipients.

The recipients return to their home countries as leaders in business, community activism, government, the arts or scientific fields, and academia.


6. Rotary Peace Fellowship Program

Rotary Peace Fellowships for International Students are fully-funded scholarships. These scholarships are only available for Masters degrees. The Rotary Peace Fellowships Program covers tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all expenses associated with internships and field studies.

Each year, up to 150 students are eligible for Rotary Peace Fellowships. These fellowships can fund a Professional Development Certificate Program or a Masters Degree Program in peace and conflict resolution.

The Rotary Peace Centers began the program in 2002. The center has trained more than 1,400 fellows. They now work in over 115 countries. Many are government leaders, NGOs, education, law enforcement, and international organizations such as the United Nations and World Bank.


7. Clark Global Scholarship Program

You could be eligible for merit-based scholarships provided by Clark University if you’re an international student applying for your first undergraduate studies.

If you submit your application for admission, you’ll be automatically considered for several merit scholarships. The Presidential Scholarship requires a separate application. However, the other merit scholarships are not.

Your eligibility for scholarships rests on your academic achievements (those listed on your application to be admitted), not the needs of your family. But, international students who are eligible for scholarship funds are required to show that they can pay for a substantial percentage of the costs of their studies. This includes students who would like to be eligible for Presidential Scholarship. On average, international students at Clark pay $40,000 annually.

8. Boston University Presidential Scholarship

Every year, the Board of Admissions at Boston University awards the Presidential Scholarship to incoming first-year students with extraordinary academic achievements. Alongside being among the most gifted students in academics, Presidential Scholars demonstrate excellence beyond the classroom and have become active in their schools and communities. The tuition scholarship of $25,000 is renewable for a maximum of 4 years of undergraduate studies at BU.

There are no additional essays or application forms are necessary. Students who want to be considered for the Presidential Scholarship should submit their application and supporting documents on or before December 1st.


9. Illinois Wesleyan University Scholarships

Illinois Wesleyan offers international students merit scholarships and other financial assistance. Students who aren’t U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents are considered international students.

Merit-Based Scholarships: These awards are given to international applicants with exceptional academic achievements and scores in the entrance tests required. The awards range between $16,000 and $30,000 annually and can be renewed for up to 4 years. Students who fill out the admissions form are automatically eligible as candidates for scholarships.

President’s Scholarships: Two full-tuition scholarships are granted yearly to highly qualified students in their first year of international study based on their interests, talents, and academic accomplishments.


10. Harvard University MBA Scholarship

The Harvard MBA is one of the world’s leading business programs at one of the most prestigious universities.

The Boustany MBA Harvard Scholarship is granted once every two years for two years of study at Harvard Business School. The Scholarship offers the following:

  • Financial aid amounting to 75% of the tuition fees
  • Travel and accommodation expenses related to the internship.
